When I got to the last few levels, I had to replay some of those levels in order to progress. At the time I didn't really know about it and I got a bronze rank on just about every level. Speaking of my first playthrough, the game uses an XP system in order for you to advance to the next level. Since this was my second time playing this game, I might have memorized some things from my first playthrough. Since I played the game on a Vita, I had the advantage of a touchscreen in order to teleport. There are fifty levels in total, that definitely take a lot of trial and error to get through. Final Thoughts: As I said earlier, this game is pretty challenging. It would have been nice to expand on the game's lore. Cons: - There isn't really much of a story. Especially the second to last level of the game. This might happen a lot in the timed levels. Not only because you might miss survivors and secret areas in the map, but because you might ram into enemies and other dangerous hazards. Much like Sonic, you should take your time. As the name implies, this game is very much about speed. As the game progresses, you have to complete pretty well-made puzzles while trying to complete your main objectives. You just rescue survivors and defeat enemy ships (how are they still around?). Your main objective here is to rescue survivors from the star's EMP. The plot is that a star exploded into a red giant and is collapsing into a black hole. That's pretty much it for the plot, unless you want me to spoil the ending. Kai Tana (get it?), who pilots the teleporting spaceship, the Quarp Jet. Simple explanation, but there isn't really much of a story to the game. Velocity Ultra is a game that I can really only describe as being about speed. Velocity Ultra (PS Vita, 2013) Rating: 9/10 Velocity Ultra is a remake of the PSP vertical shoot-'em-up, Velocity, which came out pretty late in the PSP's lifespan. Also because of “reasons” I had to pause my playthrough of Final Fantasy II for the time being, and I started Ys II. I’ll try to release my review of Ida’s Dream tomorrow, if not Friday. I like the concept of Monument Valley, and I wonder if Echochrome did it better eight years prior. I found a game similar to Monument Valley called Echochrome. I didn’t play much of the second game, so I’m not sure if it’s any longer. I wish the main game was more like this, or they could have made Forgotten Shores a little bit longer. Just like the main game, I don’t really have much to talk about the game other than gameplay and the story. The puzzles were fun and didn’t really get too challenging, and learning new mechanics on each level was fun for me as well. Pros: + Creative puzzles + Great for casual gamers + Visual storytelling Cons: - Finicky controls Final Thoughts: Forgotten Shores was pretty fun for me and I liked it more than the main game, though that isn't saying much. It’s annoying at times, but it didn’t piss me off too much. One thing I didn’t mention in my first review is that controlling the mechanisms are kind of clunky. Along the way you face new puzzles for each level, her friend Totem, and a crow who steals Ida’s hat. Like the main game, Ida is restoring the sacred geometry. Other than that, everything is conveyed through visuals, something I feel like should have happened in the main game. Forgotten Shores didn’t really have a plot like the main game, aside from one mention of the main game’s quest. I think I might have liked Forgotten Shores more than the main game. It's never fully stated, but the main game isn't know for being plot heavy either. Seeing as how Ida is still a human, I guess this takes place during the main game. What is the thieving princess up to this time? To be honest I’m not really sure. Monument Valley: Forgotten Shores (Android, 2014) Rating: 8/10 Monument Valley: Forgotten Shores is one of two expansions for Monument Valley, a mobile puzzle game from 2014.
